Educational Qualification:
Syrang of Lascars:
- 10th pass from a recognised institution or Board.
- Syrang Certificate granted under the Inland Vessels Act.
- 1917 or Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.
- Two years experience as Syrang-in-Charge of a registered vessel of twenty horsepower.
Lascar-1:
- 10th pass from a recognised Institute or Board.
- Knowledge of swimming,
- One year of experience on a registered vessel
Fireman:
- 10th pass from a recognised Institute or Board.
- Knowledge of swimming.
- Certificate of having completed pre-sea training course.
Topass:
- 10th pass from a recognised Institute or Board
- Knowledge of swimming.

Selection Process of Indian Navy Jobs:
Shortlisting:
- Candidates for the written test Indian Navy, at their discretion, may restrict the number of eligible candidates to appear for the written test whose applications are received and valid, by shortlisted as per merit (board marks of dass 10) in the ratio 1:25 to the number of vacancies based on the marks obtained i.e., Matriculation or equivalent from a recognised Board. Merely fulfilling the basic selection criteria does not automatically entail a person/applicant to be called for the written test.
Scheme of Written Examination:
- All shortlisted eligible candidates will have to appear for the written examination for their respective posts consisting of objective-type questions based on the essential qualification.
- The test will be bilingual (English & Hindi) except for general English.

Swimming Test:
- Candidates qualified in the written examination in order of meeting will be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:10 to the number of vacancies, and a Swimming Test shall be conducted for such candidates.
- A swimming test is mandatory for the Lascar-1, Fireman and Topas posts for all categories, including PWBDs, Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers. The swimming test will be of qualifying in nature.
- No marks will be given for the swimming test and will only be marked as Pass or Fail.
- The exact date, time, and venue will be communicated to the eligible candidates via registered e-mail IDs or by post.
- The standards of swimming test are as follows: –
- Swimming Test: 50 meters swimming followed by 02:30 minutes floating (without any floating aids) and 05 meters jump.
- Responsibility for any accident casualty occurring during the Swimming Test rests with the candidates,, and the administration wil not be responsible/liable for the same. An Indemnity bond is required to be filed before participating in the swimming test

Selection Process of Indian Navy Jobs:
- The selection process will be based on Written Exam, Interview & Medical Examination
- Shortlisting of Candidates for Written Exam
- Shortlisting of candidates for the issue of a call letter will be undertaken based on the analysis of all necessary documents
- Written Exam – OMR-based written examination comprises of 75 Multiple Choice Questions (Trade theory 50, Mathematics and General Science 10, General Knowledge and English language 15) with each question carrying one mark would be conducted for a duration of 90 Minutes at ATS (NSRY) campus.
- There will be no negative marking for wrong answers.
- A maximum of 20 marks are allotted for the Interview and 05 marks for NCC/ Sports certificate holders.
- Interview – Candidates in the order of merit of the written examination would be called for an interview.
- Interview comprises document verification and oral test as follows:
- Document Verification: During the interview, candidates would be verified with the following original certificates.
- SSC/ Matriculation Marks Certificate
- ITI Marks Certificate
- Aadhaar Card
- Caste Certificate (if applicable)
- PwD Certificate (if applicable)
