UPSC Civil Service Exam 2024: The Union Public Service Commission has announced notification for the Civil Services Examination. There are about 1056 vacancies to be filled in this recruitment. UPSC Civil Services Notification:

Union Public Service Commission released a UPSC Exam Notification to recruit 1056 vacancies for various services. The age limit will beย  21 โ€“ 32 Years. The selection process will be based on the performance in the Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Interview. The Online applications (Part I and II) can be filled from 14th February 2024 to 5th March 2024 till 18:00 Hrs. Interested candidates can apply for the UPSC Exam online.

UPSC Exam:

Among 1056 vacancies, 40 vacancies were reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category, i.e. 06 Vacancies for candidates of (a) blindness and low vision, 12 Vacancies for (b) deaf and hard of hearing, 09 Vacancies for (c) locomotor disability, including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; and 13 Vacancies for (e) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness.

UPSC Civil Services Exam โ€“ Detailed Eligibility:

Educational Qualifications:

  • A candidate must hold a Graduate degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age Limit (As on 01 August 2024): 21 to 32 years

  • Must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, 2024 i.e., the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1992 and not later than 1st August, 2003.

Relaxations in upper Age Limit:

  • 5 years for SC/ST Candidates
  • 3 years for OBC candidates
  • 10 years for PWD candidates (13 years for OBC, 15 years for SC/ST)
  • Others as per Govt rules.

UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 Selection Process:

The competitive examination comprises two successive stages :



  • Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Mainย Examination; and
  • Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for theย various Services and posts.

Preliminary Examination:

  • The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) with a maximum of 400 marks.
  • This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only, the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit.
  • For each question for which the candidate has given a wrong answer, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
  • The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.
  • Each paper will be of two hours duration.

Minimum qualifying marks:ย The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper withย minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

Main Examination:

  • The Main Examination will consist of written examination and an interview test.
  • The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects set out in sub-section (B) of Section II, of which two papers will be qualifying.
  • Section II (B) Marks obtained for all the compulsory papers (Paper-I to Paper-VII) and Marks obtained in Interview for Personality Test will be counted for ranking.
  1. Candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Civil Services (Main) Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be summoned by them for an Interview/Personality Test, sub-section (C) of Section-II.
  2. The number of candidates to be summoned for Interview/Personality Test will be about twice of the number of vacancies to be filled.
  3. The Interview/Personality Test will carry 275 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).

Scheme and Subjects for the Preliminary and Main Examination:

  • The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each.
  • Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be of two hours duration.
  • The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
  • The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.

  • The application fees for the UPSC Civil Services examination is Rs. 100/-
  • Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates are exempted from payment of fee.
