TNPSC Group 1 Recruitment 2025: Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has announced notification for the Combined Civil Services examination-I (Group-I Services) for the Deputy Collector/Deputy Superintendent of Police /Assistant Commissioner/Assistant Director of Rural Development/District Employment Officer/Assistant Commissioner of Labour posts. There are a total of 70 openings available for these posts. Candidates with the qualification of Any degree/B.Com/B.L/M.A/M.Sc can apply for these posts. Educational Qualification:

Deputy Collector:



  • Candidates must possess a degree from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or another Educational Institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1):

  • Candidates must possess a degree from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or another Educational Institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
  • Other things being equal, candidates with National awards for physical efficiency shall be given preference.

Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes):

  • Candidates must possess a degree from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or another Educational Institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
  • Other things being equal, preference shall be given to candidates as follows
    • First – Candidates who hold both B.Com. degree and B.L. degree, together with a Diploma in Taxation Laws
    • Second – Candidates who hold both B.Com. and B.L. degree
    • Third – Candidates who hold either B.Com. degree or B.L. degree together with a Diploma in Taxation Laws
    • Fourth – Candidates who hold either B.Com. degree or B.L. degree

Assistant Director of Rural Development:

  • Candidates must possess a degree from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or another Educational Institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956
  • Other things being equal, preference shall be given to candidates possessing any of the following qualifications;
    • Post Graduate Degree in Rural Services of the Gandhigram Rural Institute
    • Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in Extension.
    • Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in Sociology.

District Employment Officer:

  • Candidates must possess a degree from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or another Educational Institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956
  • Other things being equal, preference shall be given to graduates in Economics, Education, Sociology, Statistics, and Psychology, as well as those with a post-graduate diploma in social science and experience in industrial or personnel management or labour welfare.

Assistant Commissioner of Labour:

  • Candidates must possess a degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956;

Medical and Physical Standards:

Posts other than Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1):

  • Standard III or better visual acuity of the candidates selected for the posts other than Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1)

Selection Process for TNPSC Group I Examination:

  • The Combined Civil Services Examination – I (Group I Services) comprises three successive stages:
    • Preliminary Examination
    • Main Examination
    • Interview

Preliminary Examination:

  • Type of Examination: Objective Type (OMR Method)
  • Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as a screening test only and the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main
  • The examination will not be counted to determine their final order of merit.

  • Appearance in all the Main Examination and the Interview papers is compulsory.
