Orissa High Court Recruitment 2024: Orissa High Court Recruitment has announced notification for the Junior Stenographers/Assistant Section Officers Posts. Orissa High Court invites online applications from eligible candidates for the Junior Stenographers/Assistant Section Officers Posts. There are 35 Junior Stenographers posts and 147 Assistant Section Officers posts for women candidates. The age limit for these posts will be 21 to 32 years. The selected candidates will be given Rs. 25,500/- to 1,12,400/- per month. The selection process will be based on a written exam and skill test. Detailed Eligibility for Orissa High Court Jobs:

Educational Qualification:

Assistant Section Officer (ASO):

  • A candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or any other qualification equivalent to it.
  • He/ she must have adequate knowledge of Computer Applications.

Junior Stenographer:

  • A candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognised University.
  • He/She should have a minimum speed of 80 words per
    minute in shorthand and 40 words per minute in typewriting, along with adequate knowledge of Computer Applications.

Age Limit (As on 14 May 2024): 21 to 32 years (Candidates must have been born on or before 13.05.2003 and on or after 15.05.1992. )

Age Relaxation:

  • 05 years for candidates belonging to the categories of SC, ST, SEBC & Women
  • 10 years for PwDs whose permanent disability is not less than 40% and not more than 50%.
  • Persons with disabilities belonging to SC/ST/SEBC categories are eligible for cumulative age relaxation of 15 years, i.e. 10 years under the PwD category and 05 years under the SC/ST/SEBC category.

  • Assistant Section Officer: Rs. 35,400/- to 1,12,400/-
  • Junior Stenographer: Rs. 25,500/- to 81,100/-

Selection Process for Orissa High Court Jobs:

Junior Stenographer:

  • The selection process will be based on a written exam and skill test.
  • The written test comprises English Subject and Computer Application Tests, which are qualifying.

Qualifying Test in English Subject – 100 marks – Duration: 1 hr 30 min:

Written Test 100 Marks
An Essay in English 20 Marks
Translation of Passage from Odia to English 20 Marks
Re-translation of passage from English to Odia 20 Marks
Knowledge of English Grammar 40 Marks
  • Those who qualify for the English Subject Test shall be called to participate in the Computer Application Test.

Computer Application Test (Qualifying in nature):

Computer Application Test 100 Marks
Theory 50 Marks
Skill Test 50 Marks
[MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), MS Access, Internet Operation/ File Uploading & downloading].
  • Candidates securing less than 50% of marks in the Computer Application Test shall be disqualified, and a candidate who does not qualify for the Computer Application Test shall not be called to participate in the Skill Test.
  • The duration of the test will be one hour

Skill Test:

  • Shorthand and Typewriting test is 100 marks
  • 5 minutes for shorthand/dictation test and 10 minutes for typewriting/transcription test on computer.
  • For each correct word, 0.25 marks will be awarded.
  • The maximum permissible limit of mistakes and/or omissions is 10% of total words.
  • Mistake means wrong spelling of words, substitution of words, overlapping of words and wrong punctuation marks.
  • Mistakes and/or omissions beyond 10% of total words shall be treated as disqualification, and the candidates shall be debarred from consideration for selection.

Date & Centre of Examination: 

The date & examination Centre of all stages of the recruitment process will be conveyed to the candidates in due course through the Court’s website and in the e-admit Card.

Assistant Section Officer:

  • The selection process will be based on the Preliminary Examination/Test, Main Written Examination, Computer Application Test and Viva-Voce Test

Preliminary Examination/Test – 150 marks (2 hours duration) :

  • The Preliminary Examination/ Test shall carry 150 marks by the Graduation Course on General English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.
  • In the Preliminary Examination/Test, there shall be 150 Objective Type of Questions with Multiple Choice Answers.
  • A negative marking of 0.5 (half) for each wrong answer.
  • The Court shall call for the candidates for the Main Written Examination who have secured not less than 33% of marks in the Preliminary Examination.

Main Written Examination: 300 marks (5 hour duration) :

  • The English exam will be held for 2 hours, Mathematics will be 2 hours, and General Awareness will be for one hour.

Computer Application Test: 100 marks (1 hour duration)

  • The Computer Application Test is qualifying in nature, and the qualifying mark is 50% of the total marks in the paper.
  • Those candidates who secure at least 50% marks on the Computer Application Test shall be called upon to appear in the Viva-Voce Test.

Viva-voce Test: 40 Marks

  • The marks secured by the candidate(s) in the Viva-Voce Test shall be added to the marks obtained by him/her in the Main Written Examination to arrive at the total marks secured by him/her, and the names of the candidates shall be arranged in order of merit based on such total marks.
  • Provided that the names of the candidates shall not be included in the Merit List unless such candidates secure a minimum of 40% of marks in the Viva-Voce Test.

Centre of Examination:



  • The Preliminary examination may be held in all the 30 Districts of the State.
  • The Candidates are required to select 3 Districts of their choice in order of his/her preference at the time of filling out the online application form.
  • Every effort will be made to allot candidates to the District of their choice.
  • The Examination Centre will inform candidates of subsequent stages of the recruitment process.
