WIHG Recruitment 2023: The Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology has announced a recruitment notification for the JRF/Project Associate post. There are a total of 12 posts to be filled for these vacancies. Candidates with the education qualification of HSC/Diploma/B.Sc/M.Sc/Ph. WIHG: The Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is an autonomous research organization of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, carrying out advanced research in all aspects of Himalayan Geosciences. It has strong specialization in the areas of Petrology and Geochemistry, Structure and Tectonics, Sedimentology, Quaternary Geology, Geomorphology, Paleoclimatology, Glaciology, Magneto stratigraphy, Biostratigraphy, Paleontology, Environmental Geology, Seismology, GPS, Geophysics and Remote Sensing. The Institute also houses advanced analytical laboratories. To encourage young students/researchers to pursue careers in earth sciences, the institute has a doctoral program and offers research associateships to fresh PhD students. The institute also undertakes sponsored projects to promote research in emerging areas of Earth Sciences.

Detailed Eligibility for Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology recruitment:

Educational Qualification:

Project Title: “Development and Deployment of an Integrated Operational Warning System (IOWS) in Dhauliganga River basin, Chamoli Uttarakhand” under the supervision of Dr. Kalachand Sain, Director, WIHG and PI of the project.

Project Scientist-A:

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in Earth Sciences/ Geology, Geophysics/ Hydrology/ Environment Sciences/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Remote Sensing and GIS/ Geoinformatics.
  • Desirable: Experience in maintaining hydrological, meteorological, geotechnical and geophysical instruments with experience in carrying out fieldwork in the Himalayas. Candidates with relevant publications in the subjects will be given preference.
  • Project Tenure: Upto 17 September 2026.

Junior Research Fellow-B:

  • Essential Qualification: 1st class M.Sc./ M.Sc.(Tech)/ M.Tech in Geology/Geophysics/ Applied Geology/ Earth Sciences/ Hydrology/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Geoinformatics/ Remote Sensing and GIS/ Environmental Sciences/ Geography.
  • Desirable: Experience in fieldwork in the Himalayan region and knowledge of Remote Sensing and GIS.
  • Project Tenure: Upto 17 September 2026.

Project Assistant-C:

  • Essential Qualification: B.Sc. in any of the following subjects: Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental Science or Computer Science.
  • Desirable: Experience in handling and operating analytical instruments in the field and laboratory
  • Project Tenure: Upto 17 September 2026.

Project Title: Term monitoring of Gangotri Glacier, Garhwal-Himalaya, under the supervision of Dr Kalachand Sain, Director-WIHG and PI of the project.

Project Scientist-D:

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics or any allied subjects of Geosciences
  • Desirable: Experience in Glaciological fieldwork/ survey and/or experience in handling and operating analytical instruments. Candidates with relevant publications in the subject will be given preference.
  • Project Tenure: Upto 15 March 2025

Note: Candidates applying for the post of Project Scientist (Position A and D) are required to make a PowerPoint Presentation (P.P.T) limited to Five Slides, the first two dedicated to your research experience, the next two about your research plan in WIHG and the last one showing your achievements and publication. Candidates are required to bring a soft copy of their P.P.T.

JRF-A:

  • Essential Qualification: 1st class M.Sc./ M.Sc.(Tech)/ M.Tech in Geology/ Applied Geology/ Earth Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Geophysics/ related field.
  • Desirable: CSIR/ UGC NET qualified. Knowledge/ Experience related to Hydrogeology/ Groundwater Modelling/ Tracer Hydrogeology/ Hydrogeological fieldwork/ Aquifer Mapping.
  • Project Tenure: Upto 01 March 2026.

Project Title: “High-resolution mapping of crust and upper mantle structure across the northwest Himalaya and Lakadh-Karakoram zone with special emphasis on seismotectonic of the Shyok Suture and the adjoining region” under the supervision of Dr Devajit Hazarika, Scientist ‘E’ and PI of the project.

Project Associate/Junior Research Fellow-B:
