RRB Technician Recruitment 2024: The Railway Recruitment Board has announced an Employment notification for the Technician posts. There are about 9000 vacancies available for the RRB Technician Vacancies. Candidates with ITI qualifications are eligible to apply for RRB Technician Careers. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online from 09 March 2024 to 08 April 2024. The detailed eligibility and selection process for RRB Technician Jobs are explained below.

RRB Technician 2024 Notification Out:

Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for various Technicians Grade III categories and the Technician Grade I Signal post. The last date for submission of applications is 08 April 2024.  Detailed CEN will be published on the official websites of all RRBs on 09 March 2024. Vacancies indicated above and in the CEN are provisional and may increase or decrease in total or specific units/communities/posts later, depending upon the actual needs of the Railway administration.

It provides comprehensive information about the role, including salary, Age limit, the number of vacancies, educational qualifications, Application process, Application Fee and more. The selection of candidates against the above post depends upon the qualifications, experience and performance in the interview.

RRB Technician Jobs:

The complete information about the RRB Technician role will be updated on this page after the release of the detailed CEN notification. The application submission will be available from 09 March 2024 to 08 April 2024. The selection process for the RRB Technician Vacancy will be based on the Computer-based Tests (CBTs) tentatively scheduled for October and December 2024.

Education Qualification:


  • Educational Qualification: Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the related trades of Carpenter / Furniture and Cabinet Maker (OR)
  • Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the related trades.
  • The Trades will be updated after the release of the detailed notification.

Selection Process of RRB Technician Recruitment:

  • There shall be two stages of examination: first-stage CBT and second-stage CBT.

First Stage CBT:

  • Duration: 60 Min,
  • No of Questions: 75
  • Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%.
  • These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PWD candidates in case of a shortage of PWD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
  • The First Stage of CBT is of a screening nature, and the standard of questions for the CBT will be generally in conformity with the educational standards and/or minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the posts.
  • The score of the first stage exam shall be used only for short listing of candidates for the second stage exam as per their merit.
  • Candidates shortlisted for Second Stage CBT availing the reservation benefits of a community shall continue to be considered only against that community for all subsequent stages of the recruitment process.
  • The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices

Second Stage CBT:

  • A short list of candidates for the Second Stage CBT exam shall be based on the normalized marks they obtained in the First Stage CBT Exam.
  • The total number of candidates to be shortlisted for the second stage shall be 15 times the community-wise total vacancy of Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT.
  • Total Duration: 2 hours and 30 Minutes (for Part A and Part B together)
  • The Second Stage of CBT shall have two parts viz Part A and Part B, as detailed below.
  • PART A
    • Duration: 90 Min,
    • No of Questions: 100
  • Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%.
  • These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PWD candidates in case of a shortage of PWD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
  • The marks scored in Part A alone shall be used for short listing of candidates for further stages of the recruitment process subject to the condition that the candidate secure a qualifying mark in Part B.
  • Based on the performance of candidates in Part A of the Second Stage CBT subject to their qualifying for Part B of Second Stage CBT.
  • PART B
    • Duration: 60 Min,
    • No of Questions: 75
  • Qualifying Mark: 35 % (This applies to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible)
  • This part is qualifying in nature and shall have questions from the trade syllabus prescribed by the Director General of Employment & Training (DGET)

Document Verification:

  • Candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for Document Verification. In addition, candidates equal to 50% (may increase or decrease at the discretion of Railways) of the number of vacancies for various posts will also be called for DV.
  • In case of two or more candidates securing the same marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., an older person shall be given higher seniority.
  • Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing the requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates

RRB Technician Syllabus:

First Stage CBT:

  • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS; Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion; Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions, etc.
  • General Science: The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level
  • General awareness on current affairs In Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and other subjects of importance.

Second Stage CBT:

  • The syllabus for second-stage CBT as the same as the First Stage CBT and additionally includes the following
  • Basic Science and Engineering: The broad topics that are covered under this shall be Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy etc.

  • For all candidates: Rs. 500/- (Out of this fee of Rs.500/- an amount of Rs, 400/- shall be refunded duly deducting bank charges as applicable, on appearing in the CBT
  • SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/PwBD/Female/Transgender/Minorities/EBC:  Rs. 250/- This fee will be refunded duly deducting bank charges as applicable, on appearing in the CBT

Modes Of Fee Payment :

  • Only ONLINE fee payments through internet banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI will be accepted.
  • The candidate shall bear all applicable service charges.
  • Fee can be paid by the candidates through ONLINE mode only.
  • There will be no option to pay fee through any other mode.
