The age limit for this post will be 23 to 48 years. The selected candidates will be given Rs. 77,840/- to 1,36,520/-. The selection process will be based on a screening test, written exam and interview. About Telangana High Court: The High Court of Telangana is the High Court of the Indian state of Telangana. Founded by the 7th Nizam H.E.H Mir Osman Ali Khan, initially, it was set up as the High Court of Hyderabad for the then Princely State of Hyderabad Deccan and later renamed High Court of Andhra Pradesh, as it was set up on 5 November 1956 under the States Reorganization Act, 1956. The Andhra Pradesh High Court was renamed the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad, given the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh state.

Detailed Eligibility for Telangana High Court Careers:

Educational Qualification:

Civil Judge (Junior Division):

Direct Recruitment:

  • Shall possess a Degree in Law from a University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act or a State Act or an Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission and enrolled in the Bar Council as an Advocate and,
  • Must have been practising as an Advocate or Pleader in the High Court for the State of Telangana or Courts working under the control of the High Court for the State of Telangana for not less than three years as of the date of Notification for recruitment to the post, i.e. 10.04.2024. The candidate shall produce a certificate of practice from the concerned Bar Association as proof.  [or]
  • Must be a Law Graduate possessing a Degree in Law from a recognized University, as mentioned in Clause (1) above, who is eligible to be enrolled as an Advocate and who has secured an overall 60% mark in acquiring such a Law Degree in case of open categories and 55% marks in respect of other reserved categories (SC/ST/BCs) and has not enrolled as an Advocate. To fall into this category, the candidate must have obtained a law degree within three years before the date of notification [or]
  • A person who has enrolled as an Advocate in the Bar Association/s of the Telangana State but does not possess three years of practice at the Bar would be eligible to appear in the recruitment for the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) under the category of fresh Law Graduates, provided they satisfy the other requisite eligibility criteria.

Note: All candidates applying for the Civil Judge (Junior Division) posts under Direct Recruitment must be able to read, speak and write the Telugu language fluently.

Recruitment By Transfer:

  • Must hold a Degree in Law awarded by any University established by Law in India, or incorporated by or under a Central Act or a State Act or an Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission, and which is valid for enrollment as an Advocate as per the Rules of the Bar Council of India and,
  • A person in this category must maintain good character and conduct throughout the service.

Period of Probation:



  • On successful completion of training, the trainees shall be appointed as Civil Judge (Junior Division).
  • Every person appointed to the category of Civil Judge (Junior Division) shall be on probation for two years in a continuous period of three years from the date on which he/she joins duty.
  • The period undergone by a trainee shall not be counted for probation.
  • The High Court may extend the probation period by such a period that it does not exceed two years.

Age limit(As on 10 April 2024): 

Direct Recruitment: 

  • Must have attained the age of 23 years and must not have attained the age of 35 years in the case of open category and 40 years in the case of persons belonging to EWS, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes [or]
  • Must have attained the age of 23 years and must not have completed the age of 26 years

Selection process for Telangana High Court Careers:

The selection process for the Civil Judge consists of three stages:

  • Screening Test (Computer Based Test)
  • Written Examination
  • Viva Voce

Screening Test:

  • High Court will conduct a Screening Test (Computer Test) for 100 marks comprising 100 multiple choice objective type Questions.
  • The duration of the examination will be two (2) hours.
  • The Venue and Time of the test will be mentioned in the Hall Ticket to be downloaded by the applicant at the appropriate time.
  • The candidates who secure 40% and above marks in the screening test will be short-listed in the ratio of 1:10 of the available vacancies for calling for a written examination.
  • The screening test is conducted for short-listing candidates, so the marks obtained in the screening test will not be added to the marks obtained in the written examination.

Written Examinations:

  • Written Examinations consisting of three papers: Civil Laws, Criminal Laws and English
  • English paper is divided into two parts: Parts 1 and II.
  • Part -1 carries 30 marks, and Part – II carries 70 marks.
  • Part – 1: The candidate’s ability to understand his/her proficiency in Telugu will be assessed.
  • The candidate is required to translate from English to Telugu and from Telugu to English.
  • Part 2: The candidate’s ability to write an essay, use grammar, and use vocabulary will be assessed.
  • The Essay writing test shall be on Legal Subjects only.
  • Candidate has to secure 50% marks in each part to qualify for the written examination.
  • Provided that paper III shall be considered only as a qualifying examination, the marks secured in paper III shall not be included in calculating the aggregate for shortlisting for the Viva-voce test.
  • Each paper shall carry 100 marks, lasting three (3) hours.
  • The Questions in the examinations shall be answered only in English.
  • In the selection process (Screening Test, Written Examinations and Viva Voce), applicants’ proficiency and knowledge will be tested in Civil and Criminal Laws, apart from English (Translation, Essay Writing, Grammar and Vocabulary).

Minimum marks to be secured in the written examination to qualify for viva voce:

  • The candidate applying for being appointed under direct recruitment or by transfer who secures not less than 60% of marks in Papers I and II each in the written examination shall be eligible for viva voce carrying 30 marks.
  • The candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Persons with Disability who secure not less than 50% marks in Papers I and II.
  • Each participant in the written examination shall be eligible for the viva voce, which will carry 30 marks.
  • From among the candidates qualified and eligible, the High Court shall call the candidates for viva voce in the ratio of 1:3 of the available vacancies to the successful candidates.
  • Further, if more than one candidate secures identical cut-off marks, all such candidates shall be called upon to appear for Viva Voce.

Merit List:

  • After the written examination result is announced, successful candidates in the ratio of 1:3 of the available vacancies shall be called for viva voce.
  • If more than one candidate has secured identical cut-off marks for maintaining the ratio of 1:3, all such candidates shall be called upon to appear for viva voce.

Viva-Voce:

  • Viva Voce shall carry 30 marks. Any candidate who remains absent for the viva voce shall be deemed to have been disqualified for selection. (The object of Viva Voce is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the cadre by judging mental alertness, knowledge of the law, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth
    and the like of the candidate.)

Minimum marks to be secured in the viva voce:



  • The candidates of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Persons with Disability must secure a minimum of 40% marks in the viva-voce, and all other candidates than those mentioned herein above must secure a minimum of 50% marks in the viva-voce to be eligible for being recommended to service.
  • The final selection of the candidates is based on the aggregate marks obtained in the written examination (only papers I and II) and Viva Voce.

Examination Centres:

  • Computer Based Test (Screening Test) will be held in the following Centres,
    • Hyderabad
    • Warangal
    • Karimnagar
    • Khammam
  • The candidates must opt for any three (3) Centres in the order of preference for their allotment. However, the High Court reserves the right to allot candidates to any Centre other than the Centre chosen by the applicant or to abolish/create a new Centre for administrative reasons.
  • After the screening test results are declared, the written examination will be held at the venue, which will be specified by the High Court separately.

Application fee:

  • Applicants belonging to the OC/BC category have to pay Rs. 1,000/- towards the online application processing fee/examination fee.
  • Applicants from EWS/SC/ST categories must pay Rs.500/- towards the online application processing fee/examination fee.
  • Applicants from SC/ST and those from states other than Telangana State must pay Rs. 1,000/- instead of Rs. 500/- for the online application processing fee/examination
