West Bengal Police: It is one of the two police forces of the Indian state of West Bengal. One is from West Bengal Police, and the other is from Kolkata Police. It was recognized under provisions of the Police Act 1861. It is headed by an officer designated as the Director-General of Police. Educational Qualification:

Constables:

  • The applicant must have passed the Madhyamik Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent.
  • Language:ย The applicant must be able to speak, read and write the Bengali language, provided that the provision will not apply to the persons who are permanent residents of hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts.
  • For the applicants of hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts, the provisions laid down in the West Bengal Official Language Act, 1961 (West Ben. Act XXIV of 1961) shall be applicable.

Age Limit ( As on 01 January 2024 ): 18 โ€“ 30 years



Age Relaxation of WB Police Recruitment:

  • Upper age limit shall be relaxable by 5 (five) years in case of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates, by 3 (three) years in case of Other Backward Classes-A and Other Backward Classes-B candidates, by 3 (three) years in case of Third Gender persons and by 5 (five) years in case of Civic Volunteers/Village Police Volunteers.
  • The upper age limit is also relaxable for NVF/Home Guards Personnel serving in West Bengal Police only as per existing Government Rules.

Selection Process ofย  WB Police Recruitment:

  • The selection process will be the Preliminary Examination which will act as screening examination followed by the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Final Combined Competitive Examination and Personality Test to be conducted by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board.

Written Examination (Maximum Marks โ€“ 85) :

  • Applicants provisionally considered eligible will be called for the Written Examination which will be OMR based and in MCQ pattern. The duration of the Written Examination will be of 1(one) hour.
  • There would be 85 objective type questions having multiple choice (four choices) of answers carrying 01 (one) mark each.
  • For each incorrect answer, there will be negative marking of ยผth of the total marks allocated to the question
  • The marks obtained in the Written Examination will be taken into account while preparing the merit list for selection.
  • The Board will have the discretion to fix qualifying marks in the Written Examination for shortlisting candidates for the next stage of selection.
  • Question paper will be set in two languages (Bengali & Nepali). Questions of the Written Examination shall be from the following subjects :
    • General Awareness and General Knowledge โ€“ 25 Marks
    • English โ€“ 10 Marks
    • Elementary Mathematics (Madhyamik standard) โ€“ 25 Marks
    • Reasoning and Logical Analysis โ€“ 25 Marks

Physical Measurement Test (PMT) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

  • A limited number of candidates will be shortlisted based on marks obtained in the Written Examination for Physical Measurement Test (PMT), qualifying in nature. The candidateโ€™s physical standards (height and weight) will be tested using electronic machines. The chest measurement (only for Male candidates) will be taken using a measuring tape.

Interview:

  • All the candidates who qualified for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be called for an Interview.
  • The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board will decide the procedure, date, time and venue of the Interview. In the Interview, the general awareness and suitability of the candidates for public service will be tested. Candidatesโ€™ ability to speak, read and write in Bengali/Nepali language will be tested specifically during the Interview
  • Based on the marks obtained in the Written Examination and the Interview, a merit list of the provisionally selected candidates will be prepared by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board

Selection Process ofย  WB Police Recruitment:

  • The selection process will be the Preliminary Examination which will act as screening examination followed by the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Final Combined Competitive Examination and Personality Test to be conducted by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board.

Preliminary Examination (Full Marks โ€“ 200) :

  • Candidates provisionally considered as eligible will be called for a Preliminary Examination to be held in General Studies, Logical & analytical reasoning and Arithmetic with full marks of 200 (100 marks in General Studies having 50 questions, 50 marks in Logical & Analytical reasoning having 25 questions and 50 marks in Arithmetic having 25 questions), the duration of the examination being 90 minutes.
  • The preliminary examination will be a screening test for selection of candidates for the Physical Measurement Test and Physical Efficiency Test.
  • The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board shall be the competent agency to prescribe minimum cutoff marks for each social category and posts taking into account the number of vacancies proposed to be filled up in each category and post.
  • The preliminary examination will be an OMR-based MCQ type written examination. The question paper will be set in two languages (English and Bengali).

Physical Measurement Test (PMT) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

  • The Physical Measurement Test (PMT),ย  relating to height, weight and chest of the candidates qualified in the preliminary examination, shall be taken, followed by the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) of the eligible candidates.
  • Qualified candidates in the PMT only will be eligible to appear in the PET.
  • The PMT & PET shall be conducted by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board at the venues selected by the Board for the purpose.
  • Only qualified candidates of both PMT & PET shall be eligible to appear in the Final Combined Competitive Examination.

Final Combined Competitive Examination (Full Marks โ€“ 200):

  • The Final Combined Competitive Examination will consist of three papers of conventional-type questions, namely
  • Paper-I: General Studies and Arithmetic for 100 marks (50 marks for General Studies, and 25 marks for Logical & Analytical reasoning and 25 marks for Arithmetic) of 2 (two) hours duration.
  • Paper-II: English of 50 marks of 1 (one) hour duration.
  • Paper-III: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali of 50 marks of 1 (one) hour duration.
  • The question paper for Paper โ€“ I (General Studies and Arithmetic) of Final Combined Competitive Examination will be set in three languages (English, Bengali and Nepali). The candidate may answer in any of these languages, but all the answers must be in the same language

Personality Test: (Full Marks โ€“ 30):ย 

  • A limited number of candidates who have fulfilled all the eligibility criteria for the post will be selected merit-wise based on the results of the Final Combined Competitive Examination. It will be called to appear on the Personality Test.
  • The minimum passing mark for the personality test will be 08.
