UPSC Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2020 – Union Public Service Commission has released the notification for Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2020 for the post of Geologists, Geophysicists, Chemists and Junior Hydrogeologist (Scientist B) for 40 vacancies. Candidates with the qualification of M.Sc in the respective disciplines can apply for this examination. The selection process is based on the Preliminary Exam, Main Exam and Personality Test for the applied candidates. Eligible candidates can apply for this post online on or before 27 October 2020. - Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Petroleum Exploration or Geochemistry or Geological Technology or Geophysical Technology from a recognized University
For Geophysicists:
- M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) Or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a recognized University
For Chemists:
- M.Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry/ Analytical Chemistry from a recognized University
Central Ground Water Board:
For Junior Hydrogeologist (Scientist B):
- Master’s degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized University or
- Master’s degree in Hydrogeology from a recognized University.
Age Limit (as on 1st January 2020):
For Geologist/ Geophysicist/ Chemist:
- Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years
For Jr. Hydrogeologist (Scientist B):
- Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 35 years
Relaxations in upper age limit:
- For SC/ST candidates: 5 years
- For OBC candidates: 3 years
- For PWD candidates: 10 years
- Others as per government policy

UPSC Geo-Scientist and Geologist Exam 2020- Selection Process:
The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three stages
- Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective type)
- Stage-II: Main Examination (Descriptive Type)
- Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview
Exam Pattern:
Preliminary Examination:
- Preliminary Examination is based on Computer Based Objective Type
- It consists of two Objective Type (multiple choices) questions papers for each stream
- The Question Papers will be set in English only
- The Preliminary exam consists of Paper I & Paper II for 400 Marks
