SACON Recruitment 2023 notification announced for the posts of Junior Research Fellow. There are 05 vacancies available for the above-mentioned posts. Candidates with the qualification of M.Sc pass are eligible to apply for the job. Interested and eligible candidates can apply for the job. About SACON โ€“ The Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a national centre for information, education and research in ornithology and natural history in India. It was inspired by and named in honour of Salim Ali, the leading pioneer of ornithology in India. It is an autonomous organisation established in 1990 as a public- NGO partnership between the MoEF&CC, and the Bombay Natural History Society(BNHS) under the Centre of Excellence Scheme and registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act. Its headquarters are at Anaikatti, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.ย

Detailed Eligibility:

Educational Qualification:

Junior Research Fellow:

  • Project Title: A non-invasive approach to understanding the habitat use, activity regime, and movement ecology of Indian Rock Python, Python molurus from two select locations in Indiaโ€ (Duration- 17 months (extendable); Project PI- Dr Aditi Mukherjee, Dr H.N. Kumara & Dr Manchi Shirish S.)
  • Essential: Postgraduate degree with a minimum 55% in Wildlife Biology/ Zoology/Conservation Biology/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ Animal Sciences/ Conservation and Animal Science related subjects
  • Desirable:
    • Excellent communication skills in English,
    • Proficiency in Hindi language,
    • Two-wheeler/Four Wheeler Driving License

Junior Research Fellow:



  • Project Title: Characterisation of wetland habitats in a breeding range of Spot-billed Pelican (Duration- 3 years; Project PI- Dr. T. Ramesh & Dr. Riddhika Ramesh)
  • Essential: Post graduate degree with minimum 55% in Wildlife Biology/ Zoology/Conservation Biology/ Biodiversity and Conservation/Life Sciences/Biodiversity related subjects
  • Desirable:
    • Excellent communication skill in English,
    • Familiar with Wetland Ecology and wetland birds

Junior Research Fellow:



  • Project Title: Ecological assessment of endemic and threatened laughingthrushes of the Western Ghats to develop conservation plan for securing their population and habitats (Duration- 9 months; Project PI- Dr. S. Babu & Dr. R. Jayapal)
  • Essential: Applicants must have a postgraduate degree in Wildlife Biology/ Zoology/ Conservation Biology/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ or a related subject from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above
  • Desirable: Research experience on birds of southern Western Ghats

Junior Research Fellow:

  • Project Title: Training Communities in Bird Watching (Duration- One year (likely to be extended); Project PI- Dr. M. Mahendiran M & Dr. Goldin. Q)
  • Essential: Applicants must have a postgraduate degree in Wildlife Biology/ Zoology/ Conservation Biology/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ or a related subject from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above
  • Desirable:
    • Excellent communication skill in English,
    • Proficiency in Hindi language,
    • Two-wheeler/Four-Wheeler Driving License

Junior Research Fellow:

  • Project Title: Monitoring waterbird population in and around the Najafgarh Jheel following Asian Waterbird Census protocols (Duration- Three years; Project PI- Dr. S. Babu)
  • Essential: Applicants must have a postgraduate degree in Wildlife Biology/ Zoology/ Conservation Biology/ Biodiversity and Conservation/ or a related subject from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks or above
  • Desirable: Research experience on wetland birds

Age Limit ( As on 20 September 2023 ): 28 years

Age Relaxation: The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Challenged categories as per applicable Central Government norms.

Selection Process:

  • The selection process includes Interviews.
  • Only the shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview.
