MDS Apprentice – Detailed Eligibility:
Education Qualification:
Group “A”(10th Class Passed ):
Draftsman (Mechanical)/Electrician/Structural Fitter:
- The candidate should have Passed SSC in with General Science & Mathematics
- Securing minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General / OBC / SEBC/EWS / DIVYANG/ AFC, Pass Class for SC/ST Only
- In case of passing criteria is best of 5 subjects taken
- General Science & Mathematics Should be the Part of the Qualifying Board Curriculum & Candidate should have passed, Otherwise Application will be rejected
- Though the qualifying criteria is SSC, the candidates with Higher qualification may also apply. However, eligibility will be based on SSC marks qualification only.
Pipe Fitter:
- The candidate should have Passed SSC
- Securing minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General / OBC SEBC/EWS / DIVYANG/AFC, Pass Class for SC/ST Only
- Though the qualifying criteria is SSC, the candidates with Higher qualification may also apply. However, eligibility will be based on SSC marks qualification only.
- Deaf & Hearing Impaired (HI) category applicants will be considered in Pipe Fitter Trade only
Group “B”(I.T.I Passed):
Structural Fitter (Ex. ITI Fitter)/Draftsman (Mechanical)/Electrician/Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (RAC)/Electronic Mechanic/Pipe Fitter/Welder/Computer Operator & Programming Assistant/Carpenter:
- Passed ITI in Fitter / Draftsman (Mechanical) / Electrician /ICTSM / Electronic Mechanic/ Plumber / Welder / Computer Operator & Programming Assistant / Carpenter / Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (RAC) trades from Govt./ Govt recognized Institute
- Securing minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General / OBC / SEBC/ EWS / DIVYANG / AFC
- Only Pass Class for SC/ST.
- Applicants undergoing their course under semester system are required to pass backlog papers of previous semesters if any & it should be dully certified by Head of the institute.
- Applicant should have passed ITI in above trades only, however in case of Fitter-Structural trade, applicants belonging to ITI Fitter Trade can apply
Group “C”(8th Class Passed ):
Rigger/Welder (Gas & Electric):
- 8th Std. under (10 + 2) system Passed with Science & Mathematics
- Securing minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General / OBC / SEBC/EWS / DIVYANG / AFC, Pass Class for SC/ST Only.
- Though the qualifying criterion is 8th Std, the candidates with Higher qualification may also apply. However, eligibility will be based on 8th Std. qualification only.
Duration:
- Group “A”(10th Class Passed): 2 Years
- Group “B”(I.T.I Passed): 1 Year
- Group “C”(8th Class Passed ): 1 Year – 3 months
Age Limit (As on 01 October 2025):
- Group “A”(10th Class Passed): 15 to 19 years
- Group “B”(I.T.I Passed): 16 to 21 years
- Group “C”(8th Class Passed ): 14 to 18 years
Age relaxation: Upper age limit relaxation will be given by 5 yrs. for SC/ST, 3 yrs. for OBC and 10 yrs. for DIVYANG as per Govt. Rules, Subject to submission of relevant Certificate issued by Competent Authority

Selection Process of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Recruitment:
Selection for Apprenticeship will be completed in Three Stages
First Stage – Online Examination (Computer-Based Test):
- Only Eligible Candidates in Group A, B & C will be called for Online Examination (Computer based examination).
- The Online Examination will consist 100 Number of Multiple Choice questions based on the below mentioned syllabus of Minimum Qualification of respective Groups (i.e. Class 10th Pass for Group A, ITI Pass for Group B & Class 8th Pass for Group C) and Examination will be of 2 Hours duration.

Second Stage will be of Document Verification & Trade Allotment:
- For this the candidates securing maximum marks (each Group & Category wise) in Online Exam would only be called for Medical Examination & Document Verification, Schedule for Eligible Candidates in Group A, B & C will be declared with the result of online examination.
Third Stage will be Medical Examination:
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to be Medically Fit for joining Apprenticeship Training in accordance with medical fitness standard of Apprentices Rules 1992.
- The procedure for obtaining medical fitness will be informed to shortlisted candidate at the time of result declaration.
- However, if any candidate is advised for specialist medical opinion i.e. X-ray, Blood Test etc., it will be done at their cost. Joining for Apprenticeship will be subjected to declaration of fitness by Medical Officer.

- General (UR) / OBC / SEBC / EWS /AFC Category: Rs. 100/-
- SC, ST & Divyang Category candidates are exempted from payment of fees
