GBPIHED: G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (formerly known as G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development) was established in 1988-89, during the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, as an autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India, which has been identified as a focal agency to advance scientific knowledge, to evolve integrated management strategies, demonstrate their efficacy for conservation of natural resources, and to ensure environmentally sound development in the entire Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). The Institute attempts to balance intricate linkages between socio-cultural, ecological, economic and physical systems that could lead to sustainability in the IHR.

Research Associate-I:

  • Ph.D. degree in Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/ Natural Resource Management RS & GIS/ or relevant disciplines or equivalent degree (ME/ M.Tech) in related subjects from a recognized university

Desirable:

  • 2 years of working experience in R&D at any scientific Institutions/departments/ universities.
  • Having experience in coordinating project teams, designing and planning research works/activities
  • Sound communication and writing skills
  • Good publications in peer- reviewed/ Impact factor/ Scopus- indexed journals
  • Knowledge of HAWS, and their governance, and policies
  • Sufficient working experience in in the Himalayan region, particularly in high altitude regions
  • Sound knowledge of computer packages (MS Office/ RS& GIS, etc.) and statistical softwares

Junior Research Fellow (JRF):

  • First Class Master Degree in Environmental Sciences/ Physical sciences/ water resource management/Natural Resource Management/Ecology/ Geology/ Geography/ RS & GIS/ Economics/ Biological Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Tourism or other relevant subjects from a recognized university

Desirable:

  • Working experience in the Himalayan Region, particularly in high altitude regions
  • Experience of water, soil, sediment and heavy metal analysis
  • Knowledge of HAW and their ecosystem functions
  • Fundamental knowledge of Economic valuation and econometric methods
  • Experience of survey and resource mapping, community mobilization, organizing training and capacity building programme
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Sound knowledge of computer packages (MS Office/ RS& GIS, etc.) and statistical software

Field Worker:

  • Atleast graduate in any discipline from a recognized university

Desirable:

  • Having experience in field work and survey in the Himalayan region, particularly in high altitude regions
