Orissa High Court โ€“ Orissa High Court was formally inaugurated on July 26, 1948, authorized by the Constitution of India. Justice S.Muralidhar is the Chief Justice since 4 January 2021. At present Cuttack, Judgeship consists of its Revenue Districts only.

Assistant Section Officer (Group-B):

  • A candidate must possess a Bachelorโ€™s Degree in any discipline from a recognised University or such other qualification equivalent
  • He/She must have adequate knowledge in Computer Application.

Age Limit ( As on 2 November 2023 ):ย 21 โ€“ 37 years

Age Relaxation:

  • Inclusive of age relaxation for ST category
  • 10 years for PwDs whose permanent disability is not less than 40% and not more than 50%.
  • Age relaxation for Ex-Servicemen candidates shall be made in accordance with the provision made
  • Others as per Govt instructions

Salary:ย Rs.35,400 โ€“ 1,12,400/-in Level-9

Selection Process:

  • The selection process includes a Preliminary Examination/Test, Main Written Examination, Computer Application Test and Viva-Voce Test

Preliminary Examination/Test โ€“ 150 marks (2 hours duration)

  • The Preliminary Examination/Test shall consist of Graduation Course on the subjects of General English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude with Multiple Choice Answers
  • There shall be Negative Marking of 0.5 (half) mark for each wrong answer.
  • The Court shall call for the candidates for Main Written Examination, who have secured not less than 33% of marks in the Preliminary Examination.

Main Written Examination: 300 marks (5 hours duration)

  • The main examination comprises of : English (100 marks for 2 hours); Mathematics (100 marks for 2 hours); General Awareness & Test of Reasoning (100 marks for 1 hour)
  • The candidate has to secure at least 33% of marks to be qualified.

Computer Application Test: 100 marks (1 hour duration)

  • The computer application test comprises of: Theory: 50 marks for Half an hour: Skill Test: 50 marks for Half an hour
  • The Court shall call the candidates for Computer Test, who have secured not less than 40% of marks in aggregate and a minimum of 30% of marks in each paper in the Main Written Examination.
  • The qualifying mark shall be 50% of the total marks in the said paper. Such mark obtained in Computer Test shall not be taken into account while drawing up the Final Merit List.

Viva-voce Test: 40 Marks

  • The marks secured by the candidate(s) in the Viva-Voce Test shall be added to the marks obtained by him/her in the Main Written Examination so as to arrive at the total marks secured by him/her, and the names of the candidates shall be arranged in order of merit on the basis of such total marks.
  • Provided that, the names of the candidates shall not be included in the Merit List, unless such candidates secure a minimum of 40% of marks in the Viva-Voce Test.

Exam centre: The Examination Centre for each stages of recruitment process will be conveyed to the candidates in due course through the Courtโ€™s website and/or in the e-Admit card.

Junior Stenographer (Group-C):

  • A candidate must possess a Bachelorโ€™s Degree in any discipline from a recognised University.
  • He/She should have a minimum speed of 80 words per minute in shorthand and 40 words per minute in typewriting along with adequate knowledge in Computer Applications.

Age Limit ( As on 2 November 2023 ): 21 โ€“ 32 years



Age Relaxation:

  • 5 years for candidates belonging to the categories of SC, ST, SEBC & Women
  • 10 years for PwDs whose permanent disability is not less than 40% and not more than 50%.
  • Age relaxation for Ex-Servicemen candidates shall be made in accordance with the provision made
  • Others as per Govt instructions

Salary:ย  Rs.25,500 โ€“ 81,100/- in Level 7

Selection Process:

  • The selection process includes a Qualifying Test and Skill Test .

Qualifying Test in English Subject โ€“ 100 marks (1 and half hours duration)

  • Qualifying Testย  consist of: An Essay in English โ€“ 20 Marks; Translation of Passage from Odia to English โ€“ 20 Marks; Re-translation of passage from English to Odia โ€“ 20 Marks; Knowledge in English Grammar โ€“ 40 Marks
  • A general category candidate securing less than 35 per centum of marks and reserved categories under SC & ST candidates securing less than 30 per centum of marks in the above written test shall be disqualified for appearing the Computer Application Test.

Computer Application Test: 100 marks (1 hour duration)

  • The computer application test comprises of: Theory: 50 marks for Half an hour: Skill Test: 50 marks for Half an hour
  • A candidate securing less than 50% of marks in the Computer Application Test shall be disqualified and a candidate who does not qualify in the Computer Application Test, shall not be called to participate in the Skill Test.

Skill Test: 100 marks

  • Short Hand and Type Writing Test: The dictation of an English passage containing 400 words shall be made at a speed of 80 words per minute and transcription on Computer at a speed of 40 words per minute.
  • 5 minutes for short hand/dictation test and 10 minutes for type writing/transcription test on computer.
  • On the basis of marks secured in the Skill Test, a merit list of all candidates shall be prepared

Application fees:

  • Rs.500/-
  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Persons with Disabilities are exempted from payment of fee.
