Senior Scientific Officer – Seed Systems Development
- MSc. Agriculture/Life Sciences with 5 to 8 years of relevant experience.
Key Skills: Field coordination, trialing
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Senior Scientists to facilitate research, Implementation and partnership activities and assist in the different projects in seed systems.
- Strongly contribute to the training and updating of knowledge and research techniques, to the rest of the staff working in the unit and keep updated on new research techniques or processes.
- Liaise with the department officials for the smooth coordination of the projects in seed sector.
- Coordinate with State Seed Certification Agency and Seed Corporation for developing a formal seed chain in the project districts
- Contribute to developing strategic partnerships, knowledge sharing, and capacity development of various stakeholders.
- Work closely with different project leaders and specialists in the institute with a coherent approach to achieving the objectives of the different projects.
- Provide active support in encouraging the participation of men and women farmers in seed dissemination, quality seed training and capacity building opportunities.
- Conduct and oversee implementation, monitoring field activities to support experiments, demonstrations, surveys and research studies related to the different projects in the state.
- Strong focus on interventions around seed systems managed by women collectives and FPOs.
- Provide regular feedback on project activities and progress for program review and further planning.
- Assisting field staff/workers in designing their work plan as per the need of the project.
- Liaise with the district officials to select appropriate partners in consultation and implement the project activities in the assigned districts.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as project goal owners, collaborators, extension staff, implementing partners, research technicians and contract workers to ensure adherence to the set quality standards and efficient collection of field experiments data.
- Independently organize and coordinate community meetings and trainings on Quality Seed Production and Awareness-creation meetings for women and men farmers.

- Supervise Research Technicians/Contractual staffs to ensure adherence to the project objectives.

Requirements:

Research Technician:
- Graduate (biological science), preference will be given to those with 2 – 3 years of experience working on ICRISAT mandate crops seed production and processing.
- Familiarity with crop cafeteria, FLDs, field activities, monitoring, and data collection
- Ability to drive 2 & 4-wheeler and travel to other sites when required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Responsibilities:
- To conduct Crop cafeteria in research stations and KVKs and Frontline demonstrations (FLDs) in farmers? fields in Bihar
- To attend all the field activities from sowing to harvesting, data collection, seed production, purity and quality maintenance, seed processing and storage
- Supervise laborers in crop production activities from planting to harvesting including seed processing.
- Regularly communicate updates and progress to the supervisor.
- Travel to different sites within Bihar State to conduct experiments and gather data.
- Performing any other project activities as advised by the supervisor.
